Microfibre Wash Tips

Follow these tips to keep your microfibres soft and fluffy for longer.

1) Separate used microfibres into types

For example, microfibres used on wheels, engine bays, other greasy areas and used for removing polish residue, should be kept separate from microfibres used on the interior of your vehicle, glass surfaces and drying towels.

Glass cloths should always be washed separately, as any silicone or grease picked up from other cloths can cause smearing on your glass!

2) Wash at 30°C or 40°C, using Non-Bio washing liquid and No fabric softener!

Wash your microfibres at 30°C or 40°C depending on soiling, but never wash them on a higher temperature! Always use a Non-Bio washing liquid or even better, a dedicated microfibre washing liquid. Never use fabric softener!

3) Tumble dry or not?

Whilst the general opinion is to never tumble dry microfibres, this is due to heat damaging/melting the fibres and can therefore cause scratches on your paintwork. However a very short cycle on a no/very low heat setting (if your tumble drier has this option) can be very useful to fluff the fibres back up, before leaving the cloths and towels to air dry completely.

However, never tumble dry on a high heat or leave your microfibres on a radiator, as this can damage the fibres!

4) Once dry, fold and store your microfibres

Fold and store your microfibres away from dust and dirt.

Keep your microfibres separated into use type, for example, microfibres used on wheels and engine bays should be kept separate from higher quality microfibres used on paintwork, glass cloths and drying towels.

Other Tips

  • We always recommend washing new microfibres before the first use, as loose fibres can still be present from the manufacturing process, this is especially important for thick pile, plush microfibre towels (like drying towels that are not twisted loop fibres) and glass cleaning cloths (where tiny loose fibres can be transferred onto the glass surface or any grease can cause smears).
  • Microfibre wash mitts should be treated with the same care as microfibre cloths, keeping them clean is essential for maintaining your paintwork and preventing micro scratches and swirl marks.
